Sir,

I have the honour to beg that I may be granted leave when the duties of this Department are dispensed with.

I was granted 12 months' leave on termination of this study in 1911 but on April 10th I was transferred to this office. It appears to be the popular theory in the country that there is absolutely no work in the government departments, that the so-called office hours consist entirely of intervals for meals. I need not point out the absurdity of this theory.
